Abel Ranch can accommodate riders of varying ability and skill, from beginners to advanced. Our crew has over 70 years of ranching experience and will show you how to care for your own personal horse as well as riding and cattle herding instruction. We have spent a lifetime learning what we know. We don't expect you to learn it in a couple of days. Our hope is that you will leave here with some special memories and some "cowboy knowledge".

Each roundup will consist of only 4-8 guests & 3 wranglers, so you'll have our attention.

As you ride along the trail watch for wild life and have your cameras ready! You might have the opportunity to see mule deer, elk, antelope, sage grouse and wild turkey.

All meals will be furnished. We will sleep underneath the stars in range tents & teepees and eat out of a original chuck wagon.

We'll get acquainted around the campfire every night.

Note: The arrival of a group must be no sooner than scheduled roundup date. Abel Ranch will pick you up in Billings, at your place of lodging at 1PM the first day. This is to ensure we can provide the highest level of service to each group. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Day 1~ Guests are picked up in Billings at 1PM. Please contact us for accommodation suggestions. It will take better than an hour to get to the ranch. We'll point out the mighty Yellowstone River Lewis & Clark followed in their journey and you'll catch a glimpse of Pompey's Pillar. When we arrive at the ranch, we'll match  you up with a horse and start training you to groom and saddle. Supper arrives before you know it. Then comes camp set-up and your first night on the range.

Day 2~ The day starts off with a breakfast suited for the day's work. This is when your "cowboy" training will begin. You will learn basic horsemanship, cattle driving, and most important to the cowboy "etiquette". You will learn most of this horseback as we move to the campsite. Supper will be hot and aplenty, so eat up. A full day tomorrow.

Day 3~ Once again enjoy a cowboy breakfast. Then tear down camp and saddle up. You will put your newfound knowledge to work. We may move, sort, or pen cattle, whatever the day might hold for us. On to the next campsite, supper and relaxation around the campfire.

Day 4~ Awaken to the smell of fresh coffee and breakfast cooking over an open fire. Tear down amp and saddle up. Another day and another set of cattle to work. Hopefully, you are starting to feel like a cowboy. Arrive at camp for the last night around the campfire to share stories.

Day 5~ Get up early and have breakfast. It's time to head back to the ranch and say goodbye to your new friends and prepare to depart.

We try very hard to do our best for all concerned.

Learning that you can't please all of the people all of the time is a hard lesson in life, but we do try our best.

Our priorities are the people we meet and the relationships that are formed - after all, that is the only thing in life that one will be able to take with them in the long run.
